A Bizarre Doll is a carnivorous being who preys after the souls of humans. It is an erroneous experiment of the Aurora Society's medicine; their primary goal is to resurrect the deceased, bringing them back to the realm of the living as functioning beings rather than a soulless, moving corpse. While the Aurora Society has been attempting to bring back the dead, the rightful creator of the Bizarre Dolls is the Undertaker who, in order to resuscitate them, he adds fake records to their Cinematic Records rather than using science or magic. Bizarre Dolls can be created by the Undertaker and other powerful Shinigami using the Undertaker’s method, witches and warlocks with powers of resurrection/resurgence, as well as by doctors and scientists using technology developed by the Aurora society. There four different stages of Bizarre Dolls that can be created, depending on how they came into being and how skilled the creator is. The stages range from zombie-like creatures to highly functioning individuals with several steps in between.
Creation
Allegedly, Bizarre Dolls are created due to illegal experiments with humans, conducted by the elite doctors of Karnstein Hospital, but in terms of accuracy, they are the consequence of the addition of fake records to their Cinematic Records, in which prevents the circumstance of death, i.e. the "End" mark. The body mistakenly believes that life is still continuing and starts moving again without a soul. Additionally, those with magical abilities related to the resurrection of the dead have been known to create Bizarre Dolls of their own.Creation by Shinigami
- In order to resuscitate an individual, a Shinigami has to add fake records to the deceased’s Cinematic Records, essentially removing the end point of their life and replacing it with alternative events. This is not an easy feat (not to mention highly illegal within the Shinigami society), meaning it requires skill and total disregard of the society’s rules.
- Shinigami are able to create stage one and two Bizarre Dolls, and on very rare occasions, stage threes.
- They are able to have an extra level of control over these beings due to having supernatural abilities. This means that they can influence their actions to some degree and hold a position of ownership over their creation.
Creation by Humans
- The Aurora Society is a highly secretive organization, founded by Rian Stoker, that specializes in combating death. The Aurora Society is a private association of elite doctors from Karnstein Hospital, who frequently carry out illegal human tests in an attempt to revive the dead. Its declared objective is to save mankind by designing a medicine that can counteract the "worst" kind of health issue: death. The society's motto is "absolute salvation of mankind through medicine." The Aurora Society regularly holds confidential meetings and presentations for the results of their experiments, and collects donations from nobles. Those individuals that have access to this technology are able to create stage one and two Bizarre Dolls, and on very rare occasions, stage threes
- Medicine and Technology
- The Society’s technology is an artificial medicine, known as the "complete salvation," that revives the dead by implanting a special device into the dead's brain to generate a weak electric current in order for signals to be sent to the rest of the body. However, when used, the medicine has a tendency to backfire, and resuscitates the deceased into stage ones; man-eating Bizarre Dolls.
- Rian Stoker has developed a device that emits supersonic waves, rendering all patients subjected to the complete salvation inactive again.
- Some members or individuals pursuing the same goals as the Society have developed additional modifications to the Aurora device that aid in the revival of the dead rather than hindering them inactive. There have also been serums developed to work in conjunction with what has already been done to the corpse in order to further develop cognitive function and make their creations more human
Creation by Witches and Warlocks
- In order for a witch or warlock to create a Bizarre Doll, the must have the power of resurgence/resurrection, or something else along those lines. In order to help with the process, many witches and warlocks will implement the use of hexes, charms, and other concocted means of magical aid.
- Magical individuals are able to create stage one and two Bizarre Dolls, and on very rare occasions, stage threes depending on how skilled they are and how well they are able to handle their power.
- They are able to have an extra level of control over these beings due to having supernatural abilities. This means that they can influence their actions to some degree and hold a position of ownership over their creation. This can be even stronger if one of the witch’s or warlock’s primary powers enables them to have dominion over another being.
Stages
Stage One
- Stage one Bizarre dolls can be equated to the classic zombie. They are extremely dangerous seeing as they prey after the souls of the living and feast on flesh.
- All living beings instinctively try to fill up whatever they lack, and the same concept goes for the Bizarre Dolls; in order to find a 'soul', they will try to open up the bodies of the living in order to settle the balance of the never-ending Cinematic Record. For that purpose, they are able to pursue after souls without the methods of perception, i.e. sight or hearing.
- Stage ones have putrid, repulsive stench; they smell of death and decay.
- They possess the ability to speak a single line repeatedly; it is possible that those words were the last words said by the Bizarre Doll before its death. Other than that, they do not have any intelligence whatsoever.
- The Bizarre Dolls do not rely on sight or hearing in order to navigate their environment. They do not depend on the faculty of smell either, as there are some Bizarre Dolls without noses. They are incapable of recognition, particularly of the members that belong to the time when they were alive.
- They do, however, sustain some sort of experience during their previous lives as humans (ex: the ability to ride a carriage).
- These beings must be killed in order to keep people safe.
Stage Two
- Stage twos, unlike stage ones, have basic reasoning skills. However, these are extremely limited, and they seem to be unaware that they are no longer human. Stage twos can also speak, although their speech is robotic and choppy or uneven. Without the intelligence to form new goals, Bizarre Dolls tend to react to what their human desires had been, causing the doll to become overly focused on one goal. Additionally, Dolls lack passion and emotions, despite occasionally appearing to possess them.
- They do sustain some sort of experience during their previous lives as humans with a higher level of understanding (ex: ability to ride a carriage and drive the horses).
- They view the person who created/resurrected them as a sort of master and this person has some power over them in terms of control.
- They are still dangerous to humans, but not as much as stage one bizarre dolls since they are generally more placid. They will fall into fugue states and revert back to unstable, dangerous stage ones.
- Stage twos crave human souls and flesh still, but are able to have their desires placated by substitute food.
- They can only perform basic human functions and generally need to be overseen by someone.
- Stage twos have potential to become stage three Bizarre Dolls through human intervention using certain serums, etc. developed by Aurora Society members and through extensive cognitively developmental work by a caretaker/master.
Stage Three
- Stage threes sustain some sort of experience during their previous lives as humans with a higher level of understanding (ex: ability to ride a carriage and drive the horses) and are able to learn new skills based on already known ones (ex: taking care of the horses, hitching them up, etc.).
- They are able to be taught to do many things, much like a child (read, write, have a more expansive vocabulary), and are very childlike in nature; they are curious/willing to learn new things.
- They have the potential to transition into stage four Bizarre Dolls.
- Occasionally they will fall into fugue states and revert back to unstable, dangerous stage ones or less-dangerous stage twos.
- They function at the emotional level of a seven year old child at most.
- They tend to be temperamental and can become frustrated quite easily. They are also aware that they are not the same as normal human beings, yet they do not have the ability to understand that they are the “living dead”.
- They are more partial to human food and drink rather and seeking out raw flesh, whether it be human or animal.
- They function at the emotional level of a thirteen year old child at most.
Stage Four
- Stage fours are intelligent and highly functioning.
- They perform all sorts of speech, coupled with the capability to maintain normal human behavior, and therefore can be nearly indiscernible from humans.
- They have more complex emotions than stage threes, but their emotional level normally is on par with teenage humans, so they are prone to poor decision making, becoming overemotional, etc. The longer they are around, they will mature emotionally.
- Stage fours cannot be created by anyone resurrecting the dead. They can only be developed by nurturing and teaching stage threes.
- Though they are intelligent, they still have a sense of naivety about them, as they have to relive experiences and relearn things they might have known in their past lives.
- On extremely rare occasions, they will fall into fugue states and revert back to unstable, dangerous stage ones or less-dangerous stage twos.
- They have the ability to think freely, yet many still hold onto the sense that they need to please their caretaker, who they still allow to have power over them. There are those who can completely develop a sense of free will and will go off into the world alone.
Abilities
Immunization
- It is very hard to kill Bizarre Dolls, but they are able to be injured. Their pain tolerance is much higher than that of a regular human’s depending on what stage they are. Stage one and two Bizarre Dolls generally do not feel any pain and can be repeatedly shot or stabbed without even blinking. Stage three Bizarre Dolls can feel dull pain from injuries that can cause them to think twice about whatever they’re doing, but it is nothing that inhibits their overall function. Wounds that would be fatal to a human do not affect Bizarre Dolls in any way other than causing bodily damage. The only known way Bizarre Dolls can be killed is by smashing their heads, or by witches and warlocks that have powers related to death.
Enhanced Strength
- Bizarre Dolls generally tend to be twice as strong as their human counterparts. They are generally not aware that they have greater strength than they did when they were human and can cause damage because of it. Higher stage Bizarre Dolls do learn to keep their strength in check over time in order to fit in with the rest of society.
Enhanced Endurance
- When injured they are able to keep moving and fighting longer than a regular human being, and are able to last longer in many physically strenuous and demanding situations.
Other
- While Bizarre Dolls can be dangerous to humans, they can easily be bested by demons, angels, and Shinigami. Witches, warlocks, and werewolves are also superior to Bizarre Dolls , but they are more evenly matched with them should they get into a physical altercation.
- They do not age.
- Although the Bizarre Doll's main pursuit is souls, it is impossible to claim another's as their own.
- The creation of Bizarre Dolls does not strictly apply to corpses of human beings, but to animals such as horses and dogs.
- The bodies of Bizarre Dolls are considerably softer and colder than that of a regular human being.
- They do not have any recollection of their lives prior to dying. Stage three and four Bizarre Dolls may experience flashbacks or dreams that are fragmented memories of past experiences, but not enough to be able to remember anything distinct about their old life. Stage four Bizarre Dolls are prone to experiencing heavy feelings of déjà vu because of events and experiences prior to their death.
- Bizarre Dolls are unable to reproduce with any species, including their own.
